When?

The sooner you begin learning the better, but it's never too late to start. The GB Academies currently have nearly 2000 members aged between 3 and 73, so why not give it a go? You never know until you try!

Our 45 minute Introductory classes are perfect for anyone who has never done an hours exercise in their life, let alone a Martial Arts class. We aim to give newcomers a gentle introduction to Martial Arts training,  including a warm-up and stretch, followed by a few basic stances and techniques.

Remember that all of our classes are broken up into beginner, intermediate and advanced, so whatever your level of previous experience, you will find our classes to be fun, informative and exactly what you are looking for!

Once you have completed your first class, you will also have the opportunity to talk to an Instructor one-to-one about your reasons for training and also about which of our courses would best suit you. We can even tailor our courses to fit the specific needs of the individual, so you will always be getting exactly what you want out of training.

And don't worry! Our Instructors are both fully qualified and very friendly, so there is no need to feel nervous or embarrassed (although if you do, believe us you're not alone!) and certainly no reason to be scared. All of our Beginners classes are non-contact and even on the Leadership course, sparring is completely optional.

You will need:

  • Yourself/your child (always a good idea)
  • A friend (optional, but sometimes a good idea)
  • A bottle of water (just in case)
  • Loose fitted clothing (e.g. t-shirt and tracksuit bottoms)
  • A method of payment (optional, but the sooner you start, the sooner you feel the benefits)

You will not need:

  • A uniform (all of our courses include the cost of a uniform)
  • Trainers (our training hall is fully matted)
  • Any kind of fitness (everything can be taken at your own pace)
  • Any kind of experience (you will be with your own instructor)
  • A lot of spare time (our classes will only take an hour out of your day)
